Earthquake 7 Degrees PERÚ [24 August] Lima - Pucallpa - Yurimaguas - Moyobamba

Lima (Perú).- A powerful earthquake measuring 7 degrees on the Richter scale occurred today near the city of Pucallpa, Perú, causing alarm in the population and interruption of communications.

The earthquake was also felt in Lima, the capital of Peru, swaying buildings and causing interruption of telephone communications. Reports from social networks indicate that the movement was also felt in northern areas as far as Ecuador and east, in Cruzeiro do Sul, Brazil.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey website the quake took place at 12:46 PM (Pacific Time) and lasted for almost a minute. The epicenter was located at 82 kilometres north of Pucallpa, at a depth of 50 kilometres. It was also felt with high intensity in the cities of Moyobamba, Loreto, Ica and Trujillo reports Elcomercio.pe (in Spanish).

Pucallpa is a city of about 200,000 inhabitants located in eastern Peru, near the border with Brazil, on the banks of the Ucayali River, a major tributary of the Amazon River.So far there are no reports of injuries or casualties. (digitaljournal.com)
